Delete Your Account

1. Delete your account from inside the app

This is the fastest route, and it deletes everything immediately.

1. Open Ilham and make sure you are signed in.
2. On the quotes screen, tap the profile button in the bottom left corner.
3. On the Profile screen, tap the settings icon in the top right corner.
4. Scroll down to Account Management.
5. Tap Delete Account.
6. Read the confirmation, then tap Delete Account again.

If you last signed in more than a few minutes ago, the app asks you to sign in once more before it continues. That is a security step to make sure it is really you, and the deletion carries on straight afterwards.

Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no undo, no grace period, and no way for us to restore the account later.

2. Request deletion by email

You do not need the app to delete your account. Use this route if you have already uninstalled Ilham, if you cannot sign in any more, or if you would simply rather we handled it.

Email support@ilhaminspires.app with the subject Account deletion request, and tell us the email address your Ilham account uses.

Send the message from that same address where you can, because it is the quickest way for us to confirm the account is yours. If you no longer have access to it, write from any address and we will ask you a couple of questions about the account before we delete anything. We will never delete an account on an unverified request.

3. Cancel a paid subscription first

Google Play

Open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then Ilham, then Cancel subscription.

Open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Ilham, then Cancel Subscription.

Cancel the subscription first, then delete the account. Refunds are handled by the store under its own policy, not by us.

4. What is deleted

Deleting your account, whether from the app or by email, permanently removes:

• Your sign-in account. Your email address, your display name, your profile photo if you had one, and the link to Google or Apple sign-in if you used it.
• Your profile record. The answers you gave during onboarding (age range, gender, marital status, whether you have children, where you are on your religious journey, what motivates you, and how you found us).
• Your settings. Notification preferences and reminder times, the themes you chose, and your appearance choices.
• Your notification tokens. The device identifiers we use to send you reminders, so no further notifications can be sent to you.
• Your streaks. Current streak, longest streak and the dates behind them.
• Your favourites, and the like you registered against each individual quote.
• Diagnostic logs stored against your account.
• On-device data. Cached quotes and saved settings on the device you delete from are cleared as part of the same action.

5. What is anonymised rather than deleted

Three kinds of record are not deleted. They are anonymised, which means the identifier that links the record to you is removed and the record is marked as anonymised, while the text of the record is kept:

• Feedback you sent us about a specific quote.
• Feedback you sent us as a beta tester.
• Review decisions you recorded, if you were one of our content reviewers. This is an append only audit trail of what was approved and rejected.

We keep the text because it is product feedback we learn from, and because the review trail is an audit record whose value depends on it staying complete. Removing the link to you is what stops it being information about you.

These records live in a part of our database that the app itself cannot reach, by design, so unlinking them is an administrative step on our side rather than something the Delete Account button can perform. We complete that step within 30 days of the account being deleted.

If you believe the text of one of these entries contains personal details about you, tell us in an email and we will remove that text as well.

6. What we keep, and why

• Purchase and billing records. Google, Apple and our subscription provider RevenueCat each hold their own record of what you bought. We cannot delete records held by the stores, and we are required to keep billing records for tax and accounting purposes. Cancellations and refunds go through the store.
• Usage and crash data. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand which features people use, and Firebase Crashlytics to find and fix crashes. Crash reports are not tagged with your identity. Analytics events are pseudonymous and are removed on Google's own retention schedule rather than by us. You can switch analytics off at any time in the app, under Settings then Privacy.
• Website sign-ups. If you joined the waitlist or applied to the beta programme on this website, that is a separate record from your app account, so deleting the account does not remove it. Email us and we will delete it.
• Provider backups. Our database provider (Google Firebase) may hold deleted records in its own backups for a limited period before they are overwritten. They are not accessible in the app or by us during normal operation.

7. How long it takes

• In the app: immediate. Your account and the data listed in section 4 are gone by the time the screen closes.
• By email: we aim to acknowledge your request within 7 days and to complete it within 30 days, which is the limit set by UK data protection law. In practice it is usually much sooner.
• The anonymisation step in section 5: within 30 days of the account being deleted.
