Effective date: 5 August 2026
The short version: we collect your email, your first name, the onboarding answers you choose to give, and what you do in the app, so we can pick the right quotes and send your reminders. We never collect your location, even though the app calculates prayer times. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and you can delete your account from inside the app at any time.
Ilham is operated by Ilham Labs, United Kingdom. This policy covers the Ilham mobile app on iOS and Android, and the ilhaminspires.app website. If you have any question about it, contact us at support@ilhaminspires.app.
We are the data controller for the information described here.
We only collect what the app needs to work and to improve. Here it is in full.
When you create an account we collect your email address and the first name you enter. If you sign in with Google or Apple we also receive the display name and profile photo those services return, and a record of which provider you used. This is handled by Firebase Authentication. We use it to sign you in, to address you by name in the app, and to contact you about your account.
After signing up we ask a short set of questions: your age range, gender, marital status, whether you have children, where you are on your religious journey, what kind of motivation you respond to, and how you heard about us. Every one of these can be skipped. Only your first name is required, because the app uses it inside quotes and greetings. We use the answers to choose which quotes to show you and to understand who the app is reaching. Skipped questions are stored as blanks.
Your answer about your religious journey is information about your religious beliefs. We ask for it only to pick which quotes suit you, we never share it, and you can skip the question or delete your account at any time.
We store the quotes you favourite, and a marker recording that you liked a particular quote so we can show accurate like counts. We store your reading streak and the dates behind it. We store your notification preferences, the times you want reminders, the themes you have chosen, and your appearance settings.
To send you daily reminders we store the push token your device gives us (Firebase Cloud Messaging). It identifies the device, not you personally, and it is deleted with your account.
If you send feedback about a quote, or feedback as a beta tester, we store what you wrote alongside your account identifier. If you are one of our content reviewers, we store a record of each approve or reject decision you make, as an audit trail.
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to see which screens and features people actually use, and Firebase Crashlytics to find and fix crashes. Analytics events are linked to your account identifier. Crash reports are not tagged with your identity. You can turn analytics off at any time in the app, under Settings then Privacy, and the app will stop sending events.
We do not use an advertising identifier. Ilham shows no ads, and the app does not request the Android advertising ID.
If you subscribe to Ilham Premium, the purchase is made and billed by Google Play or the App Store. We never see or store your card details. We use RevenueCat to tell us whether your subscription is active, and we give RevenueCat your account identifier so it can match your subscription to your account.
If you join the waitlist or apply to the beta programme on our website, we store what you submitted on that form. For the beta application that includes your name, email address, phone number, country, gender and the answers you gave about your devices and how you would take part. This is separate from your app account.
Ilham does not collect your location. We want to be specific about this, because a prayer time feature usually implies the opposite.
The app can calculate prayer times, and to do that it needs your coordinates. Those coordinates are read on your device, used on your device, and cached on your device so the app does not have to ask again for 24 hours. They are never sent to us, never written to our database, and never shared with anyone. There is no location field on your account record, and no location data reaches our servers at any point.
If you decline the location permission, the app still works. You simply do not get prayer time features.
We do not sell your information, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it for advertising.
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and on our instructions:
| Provider | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Google (Firebase) | Sign-in, database, notifications, analytics and crash reporting. Data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure. |
| RevenueCat | Confirms whether your subscription is active. Receives your account identifier and your purchase status. |
| Google Play and Apple | Take payment for subscriptions and hold their own record of the purchase. |
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend legal claims.
You can delete your Ilham account and its data yourself, from inside the app, at any time. You can also ask us to do it by email if you no longer have the app.
Full instructions, and a complete list of what is deleted, what is anonymised and what is kept, are here: ilhaminspires.app/delete-account
Deleting your account does not cancel a paid subscription. Subscriptions are billed by Google Play or the App Store, and you cancel them there. The deletion page explains how.
If you are in the UK or the EU you have the right to ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these, email support@ilhaminspires.app. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Ilham is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email support@ilhaminspires.app and we will delete it.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Where the change is significant we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
